Calling all hunky heroes.

An animal welfare group is on the hunt for the Commonwealth’s hottest firefighters for an upcoming 2017 calendar.

Animal welfare organization the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is recruiting area first-responders for the calendar, which supports its efforts to house homeless pets.

“This a fun way to drive awareness for both the bravery that Massachusetts firefighters exhibit every day, and to shine a spotlight on the issue of animal homelessness – and we’re thankful that the net proceeds will help us take care of the many animals in our charge,” said Rob Halpin, MSPCA-Angell’s director of public relations.

The winners of the contest will be featured in the upcoming “tongue-in-cheek beefcake calendar,” as Halpin called it, pictured next to animals currently up for adoption in MSPCA’s care.

The deadline to enter online at MassFireCalendar.org is April 10. Halpin said the shelter had received two submissions so far.

Halpin said sales are expected to generate more than $50,000 for the organization, which has adoption centers in Methuen, Boston and Centerville.

Those looking to get a preview of the finalists can watch them walk the catwalk at an audition party scheduled for Friday, April 22 at Showcase Live at Patriot Place in Foxborough.
