An MTA bus driver was stabbed during a robbery attempt on the Upper West Side on Thursday morning, authorities said.

The M72 bus was stopped around 7:16 a.m. in the area of West 66th Street and Freedom Place when a man tried to rob the bus driver and stabbed him in the shoulder, an MTA spokeswoman said.

An NYPD spokeswoman said the alleged assailant tried to steal the driver’s gold chain.

The driver was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital, and the attacker fled, police said. By midmorning, the suspect was still on the run, police said.

Bus service on the route was not interrupted, according to the MTA.
