An MTA bus struck and killed an elderly woman as she was crossing the street on the Lower East Side Tuesday morning, disrupting crosstown service.

Anna Colon, 73, of Brooklyn, stepped out into the street at the intersection of East Houston and Columbia streets around 9:50 a.m. when she was hit by an M14D bus as it was turning left, police said.

She suffered significant trauma visible to eye-witnesses. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

M14D busses are delayed in both directions. On eastbound buses,stops between Columbia and Mangin streets will be made on Avenue D at Houston Street.Stops at FDR Drive, 555 FDR Drive andDelancey Street will be made on Delancey and Columbia streets.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
