The MTA plans to increase subway service on two heavily trafficked lines as ridership continues to increase.
In fall 2016, riders of the 2 and 7 lines will see increased service as the city plans to add more scheduled trains during weekend and evening hours, the MTA reported.
RELATED:MTA shows off bus technology that could keep pedestrians, drivers safer The increased service on the 2 line will amount to an additional 31 round trips on Saturdays and 18 additional round trips on Sunday, according to the MTA.
In 2015, nearly every station on the 2 line saw increased ridership, the MTA stated, adding that maintenance work on the 5 train makes the 2 train the only subway serving some northern Bronx neighborhoods such as Williams Bridge, Baychester and Wakefield. The 7 train’s added service will include two more round trips on weekday evenings between 8 and 10 p.m., the MTA said.

The additional service will begin implementation in the fall, and the schedule will be finalized in the coming months, the MTA added.
