NASCAR driver Marcos Ambrose punches Casey Mears after race

NASCAR is no stranger to post-race altercations. The latest came after Sunday’s Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway.

Aussie Marcos Ambrose and Casey Mears got into an argument after pulling into the garage after the race, which eventually led to a shove by Mears, in the green and blue fire suit. Ambrose retaliated with a swing at Mears’ head, which looked like it landed above Mears’ left eye and actually knocked his hat off. After the punch, the two crews stepped in and separated the drivers.

The two finished 18th and 19th, but it’s unclear what actually caused the fight.

Joey Logano picked up his second win of the season.

It’s funny to watch FOX’s Chris Meyers do play-by-play of the fight live. It would’ve been even funnier if he’d dropped a “Well that escalated quickly.”

Actually, maybe Casey Mears should’ve pulled a Jean Girard and blocked Ambrose’s punch.

Either way, it was a good little tiff, but it doesn’t measure up to Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison trading punches on the backstretch at the end of the 1979 Daytona 500.
