NASCAR, MMA bosses slap Bowyer, Sonnen

Yesterday was not a good day to be a sport cheat.

Officials slapped UFC middleweight contender Chael Sonnen and Sprint Cup driver Clint Bowyer with hefty penalties for recent violations.

Sonnen tested positive for steroids after narrowly dropping a middleweight title fight to Anderson Silva at UFC 117. The California State Athletic Commission has suspended him until Sept. 2, 2011.

Bowyer, meanwhile, was docked 150 Chase points after his winning car from New Hampshire was ruled to have violated several NASCAR rules. The penalty knocks him from second in the playoff standings to 12th.
