NBA rumors: Ramon Sessions – Knicks agree to one-year deal

The New York Knicks and veteran point guard Ramon Sessions have agreed to a one-year, $2.3 million on Friday, as first reported by Shams Charania of the Vertical.

With the NBA’s offseason winding deeper into summer, the market for free agents dried up extensively the Knicks were still in need of a point guard that could step in immediately and start this season.

Frank Ntilikina, who was drafted eighth overall last month, is just 18 years old and still needs some time to mature and acclimate his game to the NBA level.

Sessions at least gives the Knicks another option at the position other than Ron Baker and Chasson Randle, who have combined to start just 13 games in their respective NBA careers.

The 30-year-old Sessions is a 10-year veteran and a journeyman of sorts, playing for seven-different teams since his debut in 2007. He most recently played for the Charlotte Hornets where he averaged 6.2 points and 2.6 assists in 16.2 minutes per game last season.

This is a mutually positive deal for both parties. A one-year deal allows Sessions to stay in the league for another season while the Knicks get much-needed depth at the point guard position. Sessions also holds the experience to take the inexperienced 18-year-old Ntilikina, Baker and Randle, who are both 24, under his wing and show them what it takes to produce in the league.
