Once again, the Brooklyn Nets are working toward something better in the future.
In 2017-18 though, they actually have tangible things to build off of.
While the Nets are expected to sport one of the worst records in the NBA, there is plenty of promise in the frontcourt after the team traded veteran center Brook Lopez to the Los Angeles Lakers for guard D’Angelo Russell.
He will join Jeremy Lin in Brooklyn as the two could create an imposing duo should Russell continue to develop while Lin stays healthy.
On Monday, the Nets learned what their schedule will look like for this upcoming season after the league released each team’s slate of games.

Nets @ New York Knicks- Friday, Oct. 27, 7:30 p.m.
It’s hard to say that there is a rivalry between the New York sides because there simply isn’t one, yet. Both teams have not been competitive at the same time in years, which makes their meetings a matchup of which is the more inept organization.
But the Nets have an opportunity to show their cross-town rivals that you can’t sleep on Brooklyn, even if they are destined for the draft lottery once again.
Nets vs. Golden State Warriors- Sunday, Nov. 19, 6 p.m.
Let’s be honest, the basketball exhibited by the home team at Barclays Center might be painful to watch at times. And in the largest city in the world, there are plenty of basketball fans who will pay top dollar to see the NBA’s biggest stars.
Expect a sellout on Nov. 19 when the defending-champion Warriors come to town. With Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Co. in the house, expect to see plenty of front-running Warriors fans in attendance to create a raucous atmosphere.
Nets vs. Los Angeles Lakers- Friday, Feb. 2, 7:30 p.m.
The Lakers only trip to Brooklyn provides Nets fans an opportunity to properly thank Brook Lopez for his time with the team.
A loyal servant who was the face of the franchise, Lopez spent nine seasons with the Nets organization, which dated back to its time in New Jersey.
He is the franchise leader in points scored, field goals and blocks, often serving as the lone bright spot on some bad teams.
