The?Nets finalized a three-team trade yesterday for Maria Sharapova’s fiance, Sasha Vujacic.
The Nets sent forward Terrence Williams to Houston and also received first-round draft picks from the Lakers (2011) and Rockets (2012). Los Angeles obtained forward Joe Smith and two second-round draft picks from the Nets.
“This trade benefits our team in both the short and long term,” Nets general manager Billy King said in a statement.
The Nets are in last place in the Atlantic Division under first-year coach Avery Johnson, but the trade could wind up making this season one to remember. The team now has five first-round picks over the next two years, putting it in prime position to make a run at the Nuggets’ Carmelo Anthony, who has yet to sign an extension.
The three-time All-Star reportedly said he wanted to be traded to the Knicks, but the Nets may have more to offer Denver in return.
