New emergency gear for Ottawa airport

Safety and efficiency has a hefty price tag for the tens of thousands of travellers that fly out of the Ottawa International Airport.

That’s why $11 million worth of new equipment was unveiled yesterday at the combined services building.

With the new, state-of- the-art equipment, Ottawa’s Airport Authority is confident the facility is better prepared to handle any emergency response or winter storm it may encounter.

“The financial investment was a commitment to the community that we felt was our responsibility,” said Raymond Brunet, chairman of the board of directors for the Airport Authority.

“We have modern, efficient facilities that will now be supported by equipment and training of the highest calibre.”

The emergency response fleet renewal began in 2009 with the addition of a new command vehicle and was completed with the addition of the three new Rosenbauer Panther fire trucks.
