The Red Wagon
2296 East Hastings Street
Monday-Friday – 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Saturday & Sunday – 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Do not judge a diner by its cover. At least not Chef Brad Miller’s. The Red Wagon, his new Hastings Street neighborhood joint, is worth a journey through impenetrable traffic and rebellious pedestrians.
The menu is filled with warm classics like a hot turkey sandwich and a flavoured pulled pork, which I hear is gluttonously delicious. For those watching their waistline as we head into chocolate season (a.k.a. Christmas), Brad’s Cobb salad ($10) is your perfect option. Each of its crispy cold elements is uber fresh and aesthetically presented. Neat little piles of paper thin radish shavings, tender slices of unadorned chicken, slabs of ripe and creamy avocado, hunks of potent blue cheese, well-cooked bacon pieces, and moist bits of hard-boiled egg sit together on a bed of mildly dressed iceberg lettuce.
Cozy up with Brad’s soup of the day ($5) (pictured is lentil, which boasts alluring undertones of bacon and cumin), some strong Salt Spring Coffee, or hot chocolate with marshmallows.
