As part of the effort to make the area more navigable, the 34th Street Partnership and several newspapers, including Metro unveiled redesigned news racks to reduce the clutter of individual boxes.

The 34th Street Partnership — a coalition of property owners, tenants and city officials — aims to revitalize the 31-block district near the major transportation hubs.

“Our objective is to have a street free of standalone boxes, and have the most beautiful improvement district in the world and the same with the sidewalks, we think what we’re doing here is setting our partnership apart from around the globe,” Craig M. LaCaruba, vice president for capital projects of the 34th Street Partnership, told Metro.
