New operations commander takes helm of Canadian Forces

The Canadian Forces organization responsible for routine and contingency operations in Canada officially changed hands yesterday.

“I feel privileged to be your commander,” said incoming Canada Command head Lt-Gen. Walter Semianiw at the Cartier Square Drill Hall. “You have distinguished yourselves in front of the world by the way you have superbly planned and executed the Canadian Forces’ participation in the security of the Olympics and the G8 and G20 summits.”

“It’s been an honour and a privilege to be a steward of this organization during a remarkable year during which we saw the largest series of domestic operations in Canadian history,” said outgoing commander Vice-Admiral Bruce Donaldson.
