New York to adopt a state dog?

New York might never have known it needed a state dog, but one state legislator still has a suggestion. Assemblyman Micah Kellner will introduce a bill today to designate the rescue dog as the official state dog of New York. Kellner proposes that the dog could be any dog that has been rescued and adopted from a shelter or rescue group. Kellner hopes that by making a rescue dog the state dog, people will be inspired to adopt.

There are 12,000 dogs in city shelters right now, Kellner reports.
