‘Musicophilia’

Meta Theatre Munich premieres “Musicophilia,” an artistic interpretation of Oliver Sacks’ best-selling book with the same name, this weekend from Thursday to Saturday. German author Norbert Neimann uses four actors, singers and musicians to explore the connection between sound and thought, based on the premise that music can be used to repair neurological conditions. Find out what your brain actually feels when it does what we call “hearing.”

Coming off a handful of tour dates with Billy Joel, including Madison Square Garden last month, singer/songwriter/pianist Jamie Cullum will take the Beacon Theatre stage in a solo show this Thursday, backed by a big band and aided by a special guest, Grammy Award winner Lisa Fleisher. His latest album, “Interlude,” was released last month.

It’s the first Thursday of the month, and what that means Basement Bhangra, the 16-year-strong dance party. This week, DJ Rehka and DJ Petra are joined by special guest Sikh Knowledge. Get in free before 8 p.m. with later tickets $10 in advance and $15 at the door. You don’t need to know the steps to show up: The warm-up happens during happy hour, 7-9 p.m. Then the dance lessons with Minila of Ajna Dance begin at 10, so you can perfect your bangin’ bhangra moves.

Mr. NY Escort of the Year Contest

Each year, Rent Boy holds a competition to crown the International Escort of the Year. The title will be decided in March at the ninth annual Hookies, but finalists will be competing for the honor of Mr. New York – and the chance to move to the next round – this Saturday at Therapy. Drag queen Sherry Vine and last year’s winner, Boomer Banks, host. Out of six sexy contenders, only one will go on to compete at world-championship level. Lesser titles can be won through votes at www.thehookies.com.

It’s in honor of Valentine’s Day.

‘Alarm!’ Opening

Alexis Dahan’s new exhibit “Alarm!” opens on Thursday, but check it out early at the opening reception. Her immersive collection explores city streets and the psychology and philosophy we can gain from new interactions with ordinary symbols. For example, the installation actually begins outside with a painted fire alarm, news rack and pothole. Inside, sculptures and paintings reframe other familiar items so that viewers look at them in a new light.

SI Swimsuit Fan Festival

Ever dream of meeting a real Sports Illustrated swimsuit model? Well you’ll have the chance to meet 20 of them at Swim City, a 10,000-foot facility in Herald Square. Next Monday and Tuesday, the women who help make the magazine an international sensation will be promoting the launch of the new, multiplatform SI Swimsuit 2015. The two days will be filled with fan events ranging from live concerts to interactive exhibits, plus interviews and autograph sessions with the models themselves, and it’s all free.

NBA All-Star House Events

On Feb. 15, the NBA All-Star Weekend is returning to NYC for the first time since 1998. You might not be able to get a ticket to the big game, but you can catch fan events at both the LIU Brooklyn Paramount Theatre (1 University Plaza) and the Skylight at Moynihan Station (360 W. 33rd St.) The events provide interactive activities like practicing your jump shot, plus the chance to meet NBA pros and watch challenges and clinics on a full-size court.
