Williamsburg Independent Film Festival Indie films get some large-scale attention this weekend. Screenings include “Like Sunday, Like Rain,” which stars Leighton Meester, Debra Messing and the American Idiot himself, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, plus themed nights like “High Drama,” “Make Em Laugh” and an “Out of this World” sci-fi and horror shorts collection. Tom Shillue’s Funny Story Storyteller Tom Shillue – you may recognize him from stints on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and performing in Jimmy Fallon’s Barbershop Quartet – teams up with Brooklyn Based for a night of funny stories and local beers. Guests include “Daily Show” writer J.R. Havlan, standup comic Eddie Brill (“The Late Show with David Letterman”) and three-time Emmy winner Dave Konig. Chelsea Fashion & Film Festival A film screening-cum-fashion show benefiting Love146, a nonprofit dedicated to ending child trafficking across the world. Enjoy an open vodka bar from 6-7 p.m., followed by screenings, fashion exhibits and a runway show. Holiday Spirits Bazaar The Dizzy Fizz hosts this holiday spectacular taking over two floors of The Invisible Dog – one to be dubbed Winter Whiskey Tavern and the other Sparkling Spirited Parlor. Pick your poison, or enjoy it all with unlimited holiday cocktails and punches from some of NYC’s best bartenders. In the end the gloves will come off for a Punch-Off, in which a panel of judges and the audience will select a winner. A portion of proceeds will benefit Children’s Aid Society. Meet and Greet for NYC Sustainable Food + Beverage Event Producers This night of discussion will include drinks and treats with sustainability and community in mind. Small batch food producers, distillers, brewers, farmers or simply just interested neighbors are all welcome to meet otherlike-minded individuals. The Barr Brothers This Montreal indie folk band really does contain two brothers with the surname Barr, but their most distinguishing element is harpist Sarah Page, who uses her grandiose instrument to unexpected effect. The Barrs know their way around a plaintive, November-ish melancholic ballad, but they can also bust out some raw, gutsy blues-rock on tracks like “Half Crazy.” BrewTorial Aren’t you getting tired of having to schlep all the way to the corner store for a beer? Now you can learn to brew your own! Join the crew at BrewHeister for a “brewtorial,” enjoy some snacks, and sample a few homebrews while you’re at it. You’ll be brewing your own beer, and in a few weeks you can return to pick up your bottles and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
