Police are searching for four suspects after a 19-year-old man was slashed outside the 96th Street subway station on the Upper West Side after midnight.

The victim was waiting for the crosstown bus at 96 th Street when he was approached by four males, according to CBS New York. The victim ran off to the entrance of the train station, where the altercation took place.

The suspects punched the victim and tried to rob him of his cellphone. He was slashed on the back of his head.

The four men fled north on Broadway, according to ABC News.

The victim was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital.The investigation is ongoing.

Last week, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a new initiative calledOperation Cutting Edge to combat against the recent spike in slashings in the city.
