Lulu’s Dove House

Once a month, Sons of Essex is transformed into a speakeasy inspired by old school New Orleans. But the fun begins before you even arrive: Guests are directed to a secret meeting place, where they “relinquish their identities” and are instead given a members card with a new persona to adopt for the evening. Once at the restaurant, a night of “gastronomic delights, salacious performances, seductive pleasures and hot jazz,” all set in Storyville, Louisiana, circa 1914. Amid the burlesque dancers and performers, a seated dinner including hush puppies, braised pork ribs and pecan pie will be served, with a list of whiskey cocktails to choose from. Following dinner, the party truly begins, with music and mingling into the small hours.

Eat like a king at ‘Game of Thrones’ feast

As long as winter can be in Westeros, the families of “Game of Thrones” are probably stockpiling and rationing for the coming storm. But this Tuesday, Nov. 18, L’Apico will welcome the cold with a “large-format banquet fit for King’s Landing.” Executive chef Gabe Thompson’s four-course menu will highlight the fall harvest, with each dish inspired by one of the Houses of Westeros. Just a sampling of what’s to come (no pigeon pie, promise):

Citrus salad with pomegranates, pistachios and chili (Dorne/House Martell)
Bacon-wrapped trout with chicories and lemon (Riverlands/House Tully)
Braised wild boar polenta (King’s Landing/House Lannister)

In addition, beverage director Joe Campanale has partnered with Ommegang to pair each course with unique beers, including the brewery’s “Game of Thrones” collaboration series: Fire and Blood and Valar Morghulis. Cosplay optional, but when will you get another chance to recycle your Comic Con outfit?
