At-large suspect sprayed unknown chemical in subway riders’ eyes: NYPD

Authorities are searching for a man alleged to have sprayed an unknown chemical into the eyes of two subway passengers, leading to pain and hospitalizations for both victims.

Around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, the suspect got into a dispute with a 48-year-old man and 45-year-old woman inside an elevator at the Barclay’s Center subway station, police reported. After exiting the elevator, the suspect followed the duo toward the mezzanine of the Pacific Street R train station.

The suspect then sprayed them with an unknown chemical before fleeing the area, authorities stated. The victims suffered pain in their eyes and were taken to Brooklyn Hospital in stable condition.

Police described the suspect as a black man who was approximately 6 feet tall and 300 pounds who was last seen wearing a black do-rag, a green and black T-shirt, brown jacket, black jeans and black sneakers.
