It's been a hot summer for much of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, with the exception of New England. The I-95 corridor has been generally cooking from D.C. toPhilly to New York City, with the unbearable heat and humidity broken only for a few days bystrong to severe storms bringing a return to morecomfortable humidity levels.
Looking at the latest computer models a massive dome of pure heat will build across the Midwest over the next few days producing scorching triple-digit heat.
This massive atmospheric heat dome will shift slowly east through the week. reaching the Northeast by Friday and lasting through next weekend. This should be the hottest and the longest lasting heat of the summer, with some computer models predicting it will extend throughthe middle of next week.

Long-range temperature projections havethe heat boiling up to 95-100 degrees by this weekend and into the first half of next week, meaning very dangerous to life-threatening heat.
Now keep in mind this forecast is still early in the prediction period and we are not locked in on it just yet, but it's something to keep an eye on.
The only exception to the rule will be New England –you'relucking out Boston this summer –as weak back-door cool fronts could put a lid on any excessive prolonged heat, especially in coastal towns.
If you'replanning a vacation starting this upcoming weekend head for the beaches of Long Island, the Capes of New England, and for the shores of New Jersey, as the Atlantic Ocean will be the cooling saving grace, although even there you will feel the heat, just not as bad.
