Boy, 14, accused of igniting Muslim woman's clothes: NYPD

Police are still looking for a second suspect after at least six women reported their clothes were set on fire on Sept. 10.

A 14-year-old boy is facing attempted assault and harassment charges for allegedly attacking women by setting their clothes on fire in midtown Manhattan last week.

Because the victim of the attack is a Muslim woman, the charges are all considered hate crimes, police said. The boy’s name is not being released because he is a minor.

He was arrested in connection with a Sept. 10 attack, in which two individuals set a teenage girl’s T-shirt on fire on West 42nd Street between Sixth Avenue and Broadway, DNAInfo reported. They were chased away by the victim’s mother.

Police now believe that the teen and at least one accomplice are responsible for attacking at least six women throughout that day.

Authorities describe the other suspect as being about the same age as the arrested teen, and last seen wearing a black tanktop.

Police are also looking for other witnesses and persons of interest in the case.
