A Wednesday night fire in the Bronx left two young girls dead as authorities continued to investigate the blaze.

Flames broke out at 1368 Webster Ave. in apartment 3F around 6:30 p.m., police reported. Upon arrival, authorities found two girls, 2-year-old Jannubi Jabie and 18-month-old Amanda Jabie, who were taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The two girls were reportedly home alone when the fire started, the New York Daily News stated, adding that it is unclear if the mother will face any charges in connection to the incident.

Three firefighters and seven others were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, an FDNY spokesperson said to The New York Times.

“I prayed for them all,” resident Antonia Rodriguez said to the Times. “Those kids, even the mom. It’s just a tragedy. As a mother, it’s hard to imagine.”
