A Brooklyn home damaged in Hurricane Sandy that was part of the city’s Build it Back program collapsed on Wednesday as a family was preparing to move in.
The Gerritsen Beach home at 70 Beacon Court was undergoing repairs from damage it sustained in the 2012 storm when it toppled over, separating the floor from its foundation, NBC4 reported. RELATED: Man injured in crane collapse to sue city for $30M No one was injured in the collapse, according to NY1, which added that neighbors said the incident causes concern over whether the post-Sandy work was being done properly on the many houses still being repaired from the storm.

“You had a contractor working in it. Why did it collapse?” State Senator Martin Golden of Brooklyn was quoted by NY1. “So now the contractor is seizing operation until architects and engineers inspect all of these properties tomorrow and the next day to make sure that there are no other flaws going on.” Residents told NBC4 that the family who lived there was due to move in to the new home in about a month.

“[This incident] is kinda like reliving Sandy,” neighbor Linda Rizzotto told NBC4. “It’s like Sandy never goes away.”
