A woman is in the hospital after she was pistol-whipped during a brutal robbery in Brooklyn Thursday afternoon.

Neighbors told NBC4 that the woman — whose name was not released by police — operates a jewelry business out of her home, but it was unclear if she was targeted for that reason.

The attack happened at 1:26 p.m. in the area of 380 Montauk Ave., CBS2 reported. Police told the station that two men were involved.

“She’s a really good woman,” her cousin, Robert Santiago, told CBS2. “She helps the community. She’s all around, like everybody knows her. She’s known for selling jewelry. They must have thought it was real jewelry — that’s why they did it.”

The woman was taken to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, but her condition was not immediately available.
