City Council will consider whether or not using a cell phone while riding a bicycle in the city should be banned.
The legislation, set to be introduced on Thursday, is sponsored by Council member Mark Treyger (D-Brooklyn), who said he was inspired to act after witnessing a near-accident on Stillwell Avenue.If passed, the law would prohibit talking on the phone or texting while riding a bike without a hands-free device. Tickets could costs bicyclists $50, and up to $200 for repeat offenders.
