Giants, Jets mock draft: Glance at the most popular picks

Mock drafts are getting downright silly, with the leading candidate for the New York Giants a player known as “Other.” A comprehensive search of all college football rosters failed to register a player by this name, perhaps signaling that the Giants will go overseas into the expanding European market with their first pick.

All bad jokes aside, there is very little clarity for the Giants picking at No. 23. The same is true for the New York Jets, who hold the sixth pick and many holes on their roster.

According to SB Nation’s poll of mock drafts whereby they cull dozens of national mock drafts to come up with the most mocked players to all 32 teams, there is little clarity for either New York team.

In 22.7 percent of all mock drafts, the Giants select offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk. The Wisconsin left tackle had a very solid 2016 and is a consensus top five tackle in this draft class. The other top mock picks in the draft to the Giants are Miami tight end David Njoku (21.2 percent) and Utah offensive tackle Garrett Bolles (10.6 percent).

This time a year ago, Notre Dame offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley was the most mocked player in the SB Nation database to the Giants, who were picking tenth overall. After that was Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott and Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell.

Both Elliott and Stanley were drafted before the Giants picked at No. 10 and rather than select Treadwell, they went with Ohio State cornerback Eli Apple to shore up their secondary.

On the flip side, the Jets are also lacking a clear-cut front runner as they sit at No. 6.

Marshon Lattimore, the Ohio State cornerback, is mocked to the Jets 24.2 percent of the time, tops for all players. Coming in tied for second are two quarterbacks in Clemson’s Deshaun Watson and North Carolina’s Mitchell Trubisky. Safety Malik Hooker at 21.1 percent is a distant fourth.
