Make music on a swing set at Brookfield Place

Since the closing of FAO Schwartz last summer, taking the beloved oversized piano from “Big” with it, there’s been an unfortunate lack of giant musical instruments in the city.

That changes June 10 when The Swings: An Exercise in Musical Cooperation opens at Brookfield Place. Created by Daily tous le jours, a Montreal-based design studio that creates participatory experiences, each swing makes the sound of a musical instrument — piano, harp, guitar and vibraphone — that will create a melody when all of the participants sync up.

The all-ages installation can accommodate 10 people at a time, and there’s no charge to ride. The Swings will be installed on Brookfield’s Waterfront Plaza through July 7, from noon to 8 p.m. daily.
