New Jersey couple charged with hiding newborn’s body

Jaciel Torres-Lopez, 34, and Mercedes Sanchez-Torres, 30, both of New Brunswick, were charged Thursday with hindering an investigation into the death of their newborn baby boy and desecration of human remains, NJ.com reported.

Bail for both was set at $100,000 each.

Sanchez-Torres was reportedly admitted to St. Peter’s University Hospital on May 17 after giving birth to a baby boy, though the child was allegedly not with her when she arrived, authorities said.

Over 30 officers are involved with the search, which reportedly included the excavation of a sewer line near the couple’s Remsen Avenue home, as well as a search of the Edgeboro Disposal landfill in East Brunswick.
