A New York State Assemblywoman was arrested Saturday for alleged child abuse reported by her 13-year-old son, according to news reports.

Diana Richardson’s son walked into the 71st Precinct in Brooklyn on Friday and told police that his mother beat him with a broomstick because of his bad grades.

The distraught boy showed officers a contusion on his left arm that he said his mother inflicted during a fight about his report card, police said. He was taken to Kings County Hospital, police said.

Richardson, 33, was arrested in her Crown Heights home at 1 a.m. Police said she admitted to beating the boy after he refused to write an essay about how to improve his grades and pushed her.

Richardson is completing her first term as in Brooklyn’s 43rd District which includes Crown Heights, Wingate, East Flatbush and Prospect-Lefferts Gardens

On social media she has called her son her “greatest achievement.” She commented in January 2015, “He is a pain in my side but I love him anyway!”

She was charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing. She was released without bail and is due back in court on Jan. 10.

There was no information available as to whether she has obtained a lawyer who could comment on the charges in her behalf.
