A hit-and-run driver killed an off-duty NYPD officer on the New Jersey Turnpike on Sunday.
Around 3 a.m. Sunday morning, a vehicle struck Officer Vincent Harrison, 25, after he had pulled over near Newark Liberty International Airport to talk to another driver about a minor accident, NBC reported. The driver that hit Harrison then left the scene. RELATED:Brooklyn bicyclist killed in hit-and-run New Jersey State Police told ABC that the hit-and-run driver was later located with the car that had hit Harrison. The Union Country Prosecutor’s Office is determining appropriate charges to potentially be filed against that driver.

“One of the things that everyone will remember about [Harrison] is his infectious smile and laugh. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends,” his family said in a statement quoted by NBC. RELATED:Overnight hit-and-run kills teen, suspect at large Harrison, a member of the 100thprecinct in Queens, died at the scene, according to ABC, which added that no other injuries were reported.
