A man allegedly wielding a knife was shot and killed by police in Midtown on Wednesday morning, causing authorities to close area streets while they conducted an investigation.
The man was shot near the corner of West 49th Street and Eighth Avenue around 8:30 a.m., officials said to NBC4. Officers responded to the scene and struggled with the man, who was armed with an 8-inch knife.

Authorities fired at the suspect after police said he lunged at an officer with the knife, CBS News reported. A woman was also struck in the arm, but she is expected to survive. At the scene, authorities closed Eighth Avenue, Broadway and the nearby cross streets, according to ABC7.
