According to police, the unidentified man had entered the bar armed with a firearm and began taking money out of a cash register.

The suspect then attempted to rob the customers at the establishment, however a 69-year-old patron — who was later identified as a retired NYPD officer — pulled out his gun and shot the man once in the head, according to NY1.

Emergency personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.

There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
