Winter Storm Stella hitting Times Square.

Time-lapse footage covered on Reuters' Times-Square camera capture the late season snowstorm as it hit New York City late Monday (March 13) night and into Tuesday (March 14).

Snow plows from the city's department of sanitation worked continuously to keep streets clear.

The blizzard swept through the heavily populated northeastern United States on Tuesday, grounding flights, canceling classes and pummeling those who ventured out onto snow-bound streets.

The National Weather Service sharply dialed back forecasts for some areas, notably New York City, where residents had been warned to prepare themselves for potentially record-breaking snow.
