Police are searching for a man who they said was caught on video burglarizing a West Village apartment.


Around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, a suspect allegedly entered an apartment near the corner of Sixth Avenue and Ninth Street by pushing in an air conditioning unit, police reported. Once inside, he began to burglarize the residence as the owner was not home.

The suspect took an electronic tablet, a laptop and a pair of sunglasses before fleeing in an unknown direction, police stated. Video was captured of the suspect from a surveillance camera installed inside the apartment.


Police described the suspect as a black man who was last seen wearing an orange T-shirt, dark knit cap and dark sweatpants.
