The Greenwich Series
Jimmy’s No. 43, 43 E. Seventh St.
You’re gonna want — and sometimes need — a drink for this. Five speakers will have just 10 minutes at the microphone to tell you about their work, life or just a good story. Tonight, Untapped Cities editor Michelle Young covers the strangest true stories about New York City, music superfan Tanya Madorsky talks being “with the band” and Austrian brewer George Flickinger will discuss what makes the Trappist style of beermaking so rare (because at Jimmy’s, you’ll always learn something about beer). Then, a two-fer punch of family feelings: a flawed father is trying to do right by his son, as told by Moth StorySLAM winner Greg DeLucia, and bioethicist Dr. Elizabeth Yuko recounts the dubious circumstances of the first artificial insemination.

Usually, titles are one of the last pieces of a movie to fall into place. Multiplex works the opposite way: Filmmakers get a title, then have to work backward to create a short film. Like Twitter, Multiplex also believes that brevity is the best way to get inspired, so none of the films are longer than six minutes and werecreated within the last two months. This month, weather buffs are in for a treat: One of the films goes inside the “weather lair” of the alternative forecaster behind WEATHER IS HAPPENING (who'll also be in attendance).
NYC Brewer's Choice
Sanders Studio, 525 Waverly Ave., Clinton Hill
Not that you need an excuse to drink more craft beer, but it's only a matter of walking into, well, any bar during NYC Beer Week, going on now. At this showcase event, over three dozen breweries will be serving their beers — 90 percent of them brewed just for this occasion — plus homebrewers who may have their eye on something bigger in the near future. The all-inclusive ticket also grants access to a spread of brisket, cheeses and a raw bar.
Guest Pitmaster Coolio
Hill Country Brooklyn, 345 Adams St.
What’s Coolio been up to lately? Apparently, perfecting his chili recipe. The rapper and “Cookin’ with Coolio” author is serving up his own Damn Hot Veggie Chili tonight as part of Hill Country’s month-long chili festival. Once everyone’s fed, he’ll sit for a Brisket Sessions Q&A about going from cooking to “Gangsta’s Paradise” and back again. Entry is free but the food is not; for $10 you’re guaranteed a seat at the Q&A, a pint of Shiner and a sample of the chili.
