There’s a reason that the only day of the week that has pop odes written to it is Friday. But the one shortfall of the workweek’s final day is that it’s not great for finding the kind of wallet-friendly specials that keep us in rent money.

But if you’re a fan of Mission Cantina’s rotating menu that swings widely between Mexico and all the countries of East Asia, with the occasional detour into American comfort fare, your foodie happy hour is sorted. No longer are cheap tacos confined to Tuesdays — chef Danny Bowien has been churning out a new pair of $1 tacos of the day for a little over a week now between 4 and 6 p.m. The fillings are made of whatever comes to hand in the kitchen; tonight’s will be lengua (beef tongue) con queso and baja fish.

If Summer Fridays aren’t a thing yet at your office, Bowien just switched Mission Cantina’s brunch menu from Vietnamese to Yucatan-inspired fare like chicken soup in spicy tomatillo broth, roast lamb ribs with smoked chili honey and salbutes (fried breakfast burritos).

Nice day for brunch
