Where to find a sweet, not spooky, pumpkin treat in NYC

If you haven't had enough of pumpkin mania, keep reading. After enjoying a delicious fall meal (maybe a pumpkin pasta from last week's column!), indulge in a pumpkin dessert.

Magnolia Bakery

Magnolia is in full pumpkin mode, with pumpkin cupcakes frosted with maple cream cheese, pumpkin brownie bars with a layer of chocolate and mini pumpkin cheesecakes. Don't worry, they also serve pumpkin pies, which are great for holiday dinners, and pumpkin whoopie pies. Start your day with a cup of coffee and a pumpkin muffin. Cupcakes start at $3.50.

Doughnut Plant

This place has upped the game for all doughnut makers, combining traditional flavors with unconventional stuffings and toppings. They's been at it for 100 years and created the first square doughnut and filled creme brulee doughnut (sinfully good). Stop by now for the pumpkin or apple cinnamon doughnuts and cakes. The Plant promotes a special flavor every day that sells out quickly. There is always a line but it's worth the wait; $3.25 never tasted so good.

Francois Payard

The macaron king has gone seasonal. The pumpkin variety is extremely light and flaky, yet full of flavor. Buy a dozen for the perfect hostess gift ($30). There's also a Jack O'Lantern cake ($39) made with pumpkin pound cake and pumpkin creme brulee, and an array of chocolates (try the Key lime) and truffles (praline is another favorite). This chocolate is top notch.
