Get ready for snow to fall steadily on Friday.

Snow showers are forecasted to start during the morning rush, and willcontinue through the rest of the day, said Brian Ciemnecki, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Total snowfalls around the city are expected to be about 4 inches, but could reach 6 inches in some spots. The snow will taper off in the evening, possibly turning to a mix of snow and rain before finishing up around midnight.

The NYC Department of Sanitation has issued a snow alert to prepare crews to plow and salt the streets. A winter weather advisory is in effect for New York City through 2 a.m. on Saturday.

The weekend will be drier, with highs in the mid-40s on Saturday. Sunday will be cold and breezy, with a high around 40.
