New Yorkers say: Hypnotize me

Instead of traditional therapy, there’s a new self-improvement trend in town: hypnosis.

“I’ve done talk therapy, Debtors Anonymous. Nothing really worked,” said Park Slope chef Iesha Williams, 37. “I’m a compulsive shopper — it’s an addiction, and it got out of control.”

Williams went to hypnotist Jeffrey Rose for help, who runs the Advanced Hypnosis Center in Midtown.

For the last 13 years, Williams used to spend $27 to $600 a day shopping, but since being hypnotized, she said she’s been “shopping-free” for 151 days.

“I no longer shop,” said Williams. “Now I address the emotional reasons behind it.”

A typical hypnosis treatment lasts two sessions, and the fee is $200 an hour; session lengths vary.

Rose sees roughly 65 new patients a month. The most common complaints he gets are for smoking cessation, weight loss, stress alleviation and sleep aid, he said. The majority of his clients are women.
