I was disappointed when Milano’s Ristorante closed as it’s great to see neighbourhood restaurants flourish. Chebucto Coffee opened here this summer and while it’s mainly a coffee shop, you can also grab a quick lunch. They serve their own soups and somosas and bring in baked goods. They promise to have sandwiches soon.
The Creamed Chickpeas and Mushroom Soup has a touch of lemon and lots of sliced mushrooms. What lovely flavour. It is served with a buttered muffin. The generous serving of Chili features beef, kidney beans, and corn and tastes delicious.
Surprisingly the Somosa is made with flaky phylo pastry and baked, instead of deep-fried. It’s a light and tasty concoction including potato, peas and curry.
The Date Square and Cinnamon Roll are both sweet and satisfying.
With an excellent location, baked goods from Deli Green and coffee from Java Blend, Chebucto Coffee should be here to stay.
