16-year-old charged in shooting

A 16-year-old has been charged in relation to a shooting in Mulgrave Park last month.

The male teen, who can’t be identified because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with criminal negligence causing injury as well several weapons-related offences after the May 25 shooting.

In the incident, police say a 16-year-old female was shot in the leg while sitting in a car in the 3400 block of Barrington Street. The shooting has been deemed accidental, but police say charges were still warranted.

“We allege there was negligence that resulted in this person’s injuries,” police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter said.

“As well, having a weapon in your possession is illegal.”

The youth turned himself into police Tuesday afternoon and was subsequently arrested.

Palmeter said investigators received co-operation from the community in the case, which “was helpful in us making the arrest.”

The victim suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
