A 17-year-old boy is dead after a collision near Sylvan Lake Saturday.

The incident happened at the intersection of Range Road 12 and Township Road 382 when an eastbound Jeep Cherokee was struck by a northbound Ford Expedition, RCMP said.

Damage to both vehicles required emergency crews to use the Jaws of Life to free the victims.

STARS ambulance was sent, but a 17-year-old boy died on the scene.

Other passengers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision, police said.

The fatality was the second in the Sylvan Lake area that day.
