18-year-old man charged after shots fired at two people

An 18-year-old Halifax man is facing charges of attempted murder in relation to a shooting early Monday morning in Spryfield.

Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter said the arrest was made at 11:45 p.m. Monday near Lavender Walk.

Earlier that morning, police responded to a report of shots being fired at two people at Cranberry Court and Greystone Drive at 2:12 a.m., with a 24-year-old woman alleging she and her 26-year-old boyfriend were shot at by the suspect, who then fled the scene.

Neither one was hit, with Palmeter stating he believed a handgun was the weapon used in the shooting.

The suspect was arrested without incident on foot “outside of a residence” that evening, he added.

“I don’t know the extent, but we don’t believe it’s a random act,” Palmeter said.

“We’re getting very limited information. As far as motive, we’re not sure.”

Palmeter did add he believed there was a “connection” between the suspect and at least one of the intended victims.

Brandon Hatcher was scheduled to appear yesterday afternoon at Halifax provincial court. He’s facing charges of attempted murder and a number of weapons-related offences.
