18-yr-old critically hurt in hit-and-run

The search is on for a truck involved in a hit-and-run incident near Baseline Transit Station that left an 18-year-old man clinging to life in the hospital on Wednesday night.

Police were initially called to the transit station around 11 p.m. to respond to reports of an “altercation” in the area. At the same time they received a call about a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on Woodroffe Ave.

The vehicle, a dark-coloured S10 Chevrolet pickup did not stay on the scene. The victim was taken to hospital with head and chest injuries, and fractures to an arm and leg.

Investigators are still attempting to piece together the events of the night, but Ottawa police Const. JP Vincelette said they suspect the victim was involved in both incidents.

“There is no indication that the driver of the vehicle was involved in the altercation,” said Vincelette.

Robbery investigators were looking into the altercation, and two people were detained for questioning relating to the first incident.

Meanwhile, collision investigators continue to search for a dark truck with damage to the front and driver’s side of the vehicle. Vincelette said they believe the driver side headlight and rearview mirror may also be smashed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ottawa Police at 613-236-1222 ext 2481.
