Arson Unit investigators from the Calgary Fire Department are treating a fire at Dr. Gladys Egbert school yesterday morning as suspicious.

Early yesterday morning, Marlborough Community Centre phoned 911 after flames were seen coming from the roof of the school at 6033 Madigan Dr. northeast.

Crews responded quickly and entered the building, but due to the fire’s size and overwhelming smoke, they were ordered to fight the fire from outside.

Within 20 minutes of the initial call, the fire was under control. Damage to the school is estimated at around $1 million.
