20-year plan will triple size of Hastings Park

A 20-year and $208-million master development plan for Hastings Park and the PNE was approved by Vancouver councillors last night.

A 20-year and $208-million master development plan for Hastings Park and the PNE was approved by Vancouver councillors last night.

The plan adds 20 hectares to the large East Vancouver park, home to the city’s annual 17-day Pacific National Exhibition.

In a release, Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson said the new plan triples the park’s green space, to more than 30 hectares, from about 10 hectares.

Playland will also increase by about one-third.

Also included in the master plan is a pedestrian trail linking Hastings Park to the waterfront New Brighton Park and a greenway around the park’s perimeter with more than five kilometres of bike and pedestrian trials.
