36 hours to remove signs … or else

By the time you read this article, most of those pesky candidate signs should be removed. Technically.

Bylaw boss Bill Bruce said candidates had 36 hours from the time polls closed to remove their signs, which means most signs should be gone by 8 a.m. today.

“But people should know that signs on private property have longer and it’s up to the homeowners to remove those ones,” he said.

Bruce said candidates were out in droves yesterday removing signs and didn’t expect there to be too many left — but if there are they will be removed by the city and candidates may have to pay the costs.

“We would like to avoid that though,” Bruce said.

Ward 12 candidate and aldermanic winner Shane Keating strategized by picking up more than 1,000 small signs yesterday and left the big ones for today.

“It’s a lot of work but I want to do my due diligence and have them all picked up on time,” he said.
