40-a-day toddler quits habit

SUMATRA ISLAND. A two-year-old Indonesian boy who became an Internet sensation over his 40-a-day cigarette habit has quit smoking after the government put him through intensive therapy.

Ardi Rizal was getting through 40 cigarettes a day six months after his father gave him his first smoke, and would throw violent tantrums if he was denied tobacco.

But after being taken from his south Sumatran home to the capital, the boy no longer smokes after treatment, where he was kept away from cigarettes and encouraged to play with children his own age. Health officials Thursday confirmed he had kicked the habit.
