This weekend a 2,500-year-old sport will give Edmontonians a taste of the dramatic, dynamic and dragon-tastic as the 10th annual Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival sees 47 teams compete on the North Saskatchewan River.

The festival will feature local and out-of-town mixed, youth and all-women’s teams, three of whom — the Juggernauts, the Titans and the Sistership, of Calgary — are comprised of breast cancer survivors.

“This festival is filled with all kinds of participants; it’s going to be amazing,” said event co-ordinator Teresa Jackson.

The festival kicks off with tonight’s opening ceremonies and races will run all day Saturday. The finals are on Sunday morning and at 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon the $10,000 Alberta’s Capital City Challenge Results will be announced.
