Margaret Cho is an actress and comedian who is currently touring her comedy album, Cho Dependent. She is also a cast member on Dancing With The Stars. Cho will be performing at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Friday at 7:30 p.m.

This is a different tour than you’ve done before, tell me about Cho Dependent?
It is all new material that I have been working on for the past year as well as a few songs from my new album. It’s a lot more variety than my standup shows (in the) past as there’s joke songs and some surprises!

You’re a comedian and actress, what’s it been like testing the waters as a singer?
It’s still comedy as I am a standup comic, but I want my voice to sound good for it to have enduring value beyond the jokes in the songs. I love singing and it’s great to perform the songs I have written with the greatest musicians in the world.

What made you want to do a comedy album?
I had a lot of songs in me that I was dying to sing and I wanted to do an album as a tribute to the great comedy musicians like Weird Al and Steve Martin as well as Cheech and Chong. I love doing comedy music. It’s very gratifying.

You worked with a bunch of great artists on the album, what was that like?
I learned so much from everyone that I worked with — so amazing! All the artists gave me guitar lessons and singing lessons and showed me how to produce a record. I am so fortunate to have been able to get schooled from the best teachers in the world.

How is singing live on stage different from performing your comedy act?
It’s about how I can get my voice to still sound great even though the songs are funny, which is always a challenge. I am learning a lot and singing better every day.

You must be busy doing Dancing With The Stars and being on tour all at once, what’s that like?
My partner Louis and I are dancing on the tour bus, we are dancing in parking lots — everywhere we can!

What’s more difficult, learning the routines on Dancing With The Stars or performing them while wearing the tight, glittery costumes?
I love the costumes! The dancing is way hard but fun!
